Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect your health. We offer a wide range of adult vaccines at our practice. Our team can advise you on which vaccines are recommended based on your age, health status, occupation, and lifestyle.

Flu Vaccine

Flu (influenza) is a highly infectious illness spread through respiratory droplets. The virus changes every year, which is why annual vaccination is recommended. We recommend the flu vaccine especially for:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • Pregnant women
  • Those with chronic conditions (diabetes, COPD, asthma, heart disease, kidney or liver disease)
  • Immunocompromised individuals
  • Healthcare workers
  • Carers of medically vulnerable people
  • Those with a BMI over 40

Pneumococcal Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine protects against serious infections including pneumonia, septicaemia, and meningitis caused by the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacterium. It is recommended for all people aged 65 and over, and for younger adults with certain conditions including diabetes, chronic lung, heart, liver or kidney disease, and those with absent or non-functioning spleens.

Shingles Vaccine (Shingrix)

Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. About 1 in 4 people who have had chickenpox will develop shingles at some point in their life. The two-dose Shingrix vaccine provides strong, long-lasting protection:

  • Ages 50–69: up to 100% effective
  • Ages 70–79: 93% effective
  • Ages 80+: 71% effective

The vaccine also significantly reduces the risk of post-herpetic neuralgia — the prolonged and often severe nerve pain that can persist after a shingles episode.

Other Available Vaccines

We offer a comprehensive range of additional adult vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis A & B
  • HPV
  • Tetanus / Diphtheria / Polio booster
  • Whooping cough (pertussis)
  • Meningococcal
  • Rubella
  • Mumps

Some vaccines are available free of charge for eligible patients under the HSE scheme. Please call reception to check your eligibility and current availability.
