As we get older, some conditions become more likely to develop. We focus on preventive medicine, addressing risk factors early, and providing comprehensive care that supports your independence and quality of life. Our GPs take time to understand each patient's individual circumstances and care preferences.

Medical card holders aged 70 and over receive all GP services free of charge. Home visits can be arranged for patients who are unable to attend the practice — please call reception.

Annual Health Check

We recommend an annual health review for all patients over 65, including:

  • Blood pressure check
  • Cholesterol and blood glucose testing
  • Medication review
  • Bone health and osteoporosis screening
  • Falls risk assessment
  • Cognitive screening
  • Vision and hearing check
  • Vaccination review (flu and pneumococcal)

Common Conditions We Manage

  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Heart disease and cardiovascular conditions
  • High blood pressure
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Dementia and memory concerns — being forgetful doesn't always mean dementia; causes can include depression, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems, or infection
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Osteoporosis
  • COPD and respiratory conditions
  • Incontinence
  • Eye and hearing conditions
  • Malnutrition

Vaccinations

Staying up to date with vaccinations is especially important as we age. We recommend:

  • Flu vaccine annually (free for medical card holders and those aged 65+)
  • Pneumococcal vaccine — once at age 65, with a booster if you have certain medical conditions
  • Shingles vaccine — we can discuss eligibility with you

Memory and Dementia

If you or a family member are concerned about memory or cognitive changes, please speak with your GP. Early assessment can identify treatable causes and, where needed, arrange referral to the appropriate specialist services. Our GPs approach memory concerns with sensitivity and take time to listen to your concerns.
